R.I. gas prices drop 2 cents

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices dropped 2 cents in Rhode Island and remained unchanged in Massachusetts this week, according to the weekly survey by AAA Southern New England.

A gallon of self-serve, unleaded regular gas averaged $3.69 in Rhode Island in the June 9 survey, lowering the average price 2 cents compared with the price a week ago. Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, the average price for self-serve, unleaded regular matched last week’s at $3.65 per gallon.

Average prices in both states came in 2 cents lower than their respective averages a month earlier. A year ago, the same gas cost $3.59 per gallon in Rhode Island and $3.49 per gallon in Massachusetts.

Self-serve, unleaded regular varied in price from $3.62 to $3.83 across the Ocean State in the survey. The average per-gallon prices for different grades of gas ranged from $3.90 for mid-grade unleaded to $4.00 for premium unleaded to $4.03 for diesel.

Self-serve, unleaded regular ranged in price across Massachusetts from $3.53 to $3.80 per gallon. Mid-grade unleaded averaged $3.84 this week, while premium unleaded cost an average of $3.97 per gallon, and diesel posted an average price of $4.01 per gallon.

The national average price for a gallon of unleaded regular also dropped 2 cents to $3.65, equal to the Massachusetts average and 4 cents less than Rhode Island’s average.
