R.I. gas prices unchanged for third consecutive week

R.I. gas prices unchanged for third consecutive week

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s gasoline prices were unchanged for the second consecutive week, AAA Southern New England reported Monday.

The cost of self-serve, unleaded regular averaged $3.60 per gallon in Rhode Island – unchanged from last week, but up 4 cents over the course of the month, according to the trade group’s weekly survey of the area’s pump prices.

Despite the stagnation, Rhode Island’s price is currently 4 cents less than the $3.64 national average for a gallon of self-pump, regular unleaded.

AAA recommended drivers shop around for the best deal, as prices ranged 26 cents from $3.50 to $3.76 for a gallon of unleaded regular in Rhode Island.

This week, pump prices varied from $3.82 per gallon for midgrade to $3.97 for premium unleaded and $3.93 for diesel.

A year ago, gas in the Ocean State cost an average of $3.61 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

As Rhode Island’s gas prices remained stagnant, the pump price in Massachusetts increased 1 cent this week to $3.51 per gallon

Bay State gas prices are currently 14 cents below the national average, according to AAA. Massachusetts’ gas prices are up 1 cent over the past month.

Bay State gas prices ranged from $3.71 per gallon for midgrade unleaded to $3.83 for premium and $3.90 for diesel.

A year ago, the Massachusetts average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.48.

The average nationwide cost for self-serve, regular gasoline dropped 3 cent this week at $3.61 a gallon, according to the AAA website. Pump prices reached their highest recorded average price on July 17, 2008, at $4.11 per gallon.
