The Rhode Island Foundation recently teamed up with Rhode Island Public Radio to raise $8,675 for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank during a one-day pledge drive aimed at RIPR listeners.
Initially, Rhode Island Foundation agreed to match $5000 during the drive, but after an overwhelming response from radio listeners increased their grant to $8,675.
“This gift comes at a critical time for the food bank,” said Andrew Schiff, CEO of
the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “Summer is a particularly challenging time for families with children, as parents try to make up for the loss of school meals. The need for food assistance is every bit as great during the summer, but the fact is that donations tend to drop because people are busy enjoying their leisure time. We really appreciate the listeners took time out to express their appreciation for public radio and the food bank in the middle of summer.”
Rhode Island Community Food Bank hosts more than 250 member agency food programs across Rhode Island to provide food to people in need and promote long-term solutions to the problem of hunger.
