PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island College Foundation has landed a $250,000 grant from the Champlin Foundations to help support the renovation of the human anatomy laboratory in the Fogarty Life Science Building.

Each year, more than 500 students enroll in BIOL 231: Human Anatomy, a course that involves extensive dissection activities in the Fogarty Building’s Room 107. The grant, announced Thursday, will support the lab’s first major upgrade since it was built in 1977.

The $250,000 will help fund new modular metal casework with epoxy surfaces, storage cabinets, sinks, eyewash and shower stations as well as updated mechanical systems, which will be installed for safety and efficiency.

“We are very happy to receive this grant from the Champlin Foundations,” RIC President Nancy Carriuolo said in a statement. “Enhancing our facilities is a critical focus for Rhode Island College. This grant will help further our mission.”

In the past, Champlin Foundations - which provide grants to nonprofit organizations for capital improvements – have contributed grants to RIC to help modernize the school’s science, technology, engineering and math facilities.
