PROVIDENCE – Four finalists have been announced for the position of Rhode Island College president, including Divina Grossman, the former University of Massachusetts Dartmouth chancellor.

The presidential search committee announced the finalists Friday.

In addition to Grossman, who left the UMass position at the end of December, finalists include William Latimer, Frank Sánchez and Michael Tidwell.

Latimer is the founding dean at the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing, and professor of health sciences at Lehman College, City University of New York.

Sánchez is vice chancellor for student affairs at the City University of New York, and Tidwell is dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University.

RIC President Nancy Carriuolo is leaving the position in late May after eight years. Earlier this week, it was announced that Clark Greene has been appointed interim president at RIC after a vote by the Council on Postsecondary Education; Greene will serve during the period between the departure of Carriuolo and the arrival of a new president.
“The Council on Postsecondary Education is extremely pleased that the search process produced such a highly qualified and diverse pool of applicants,” Bill Foulkes, chair of the Council on Postsecondary Education and chair for the 11-member presidential search committee, said in a statement. “Each of the four finalists has demonstrated strong leadership in higher education, a track record of innovation and a powerful commitment to student success.”
The search for Carriuolo’s replacement began in February.

Ligature Partners, the executive search agency assisting with the search, conducted a national outreach effort, resulting in more than 40 applications for the position. Ligature proposed 12 candidates for the committee’s consideration, and the search committee chose to interview 10.

The Council on Postsecondary Education said it hopes to select a candidate for the position in May, so that the new president can start before the fall semester.
