RICADV, Alliance Security partner to protect victims of domestic violence

CRANSTON – The partnership between the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the home security firm Alliance Security has been recognized as a “promising practice” by a national agency.
Prevent IPV, a project of the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence of Harrisburg, Penn., cited the partnership. The project aims to promote prevention as a priority for coalitions and local domestic violence programs, according to its website.
The partnership began in December 2013, and an early joint program was “Friends of RICADV,” which helps those affected by domestic violence feel safe in their homes by providing home alarm systems for a year at no cost.
Since the introduction of Friends of RICADV to the community in 2014, the program has helped protect 50 victims of domestic violence statewide.
“We believe in protecting people, and there are two things that really matter to us — making a difference and protecting lives,” said Alliance Security CEO Jay Gotra, citing that as a reason for involvement. “As we were working in the industry, we realized that the people who can hurt you are not only intruders, but also those you know and trust.”
“This relationship had a really organic feel from the beginning,” added Deborah DeBare, RICADV’s executive director. “We’re thrilled about the natural progression of the partnership, and the ongoing commitment from Alliance is very encouraging.”
