RIDOT expands social media presence

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Transportation is expanding its social media presence by creating a Pinterest board.

The department intends to use Pintreset – which is essentially a virtual scrapbook in which users collect and post images – to post pictures of construction projects and other ventures.

“RIDOT’s Communications Department has become a national leader in transportation-related social media,” said RIDOT’s Director Michael P. Lewis.

“This is especially true during crises such as the floods, blizzards and other storms we have experienced over the last few years,” Lewis continued. “Our social media sites were the go-to source of information and had huge spikes in user numbers.”

The Pinterest board will add to RIDOT’s already robust social media portfolio. According to the release, RIDOT has almost 3,000 Twitter followers, nearly 620 Facebook fans, 50,000 views on its YouTube Page and more than 1.3 million views on the photo-sharing website Flickr.
