PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Emergency Management Agency is calling for public input on the state’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, which is scheduled to be updated next spring.

In order for Rhode Island to be eligible for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding following a presidentially-declared disaster, the state’s Hazard Mitigation Plan must be updated every three years.

The plan outlines risks and vulnerabilities to damage from natural disasters throughout Rhode Island, as well as mitigation actions to create “more resilient communities.”

The next update to the plan is scheduled in April 2014 and the deadline to respond to an online survey about the plan is June 19, 2013.

The survey, which will be reviewed by the State Hazard Mitigation Team, can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/s/RISHMP.

The team will use the results of the survey during discussions about progress on current mitigation strategies, as well as identification of additional necessary mitigation actions.

The state’s current Hazard Mitigation Plan can be viewed at: www.riema.ri.gov.
