RIF fund gives 8 scholarships

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Association of Former Legislators Scholarship Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation has awarded $1,500 scholarships to eight members of the high school class of 2014.
The awards are intended to recognize the graduates’ dedication and contributions to public service.
Recipients are Kendra Cimaglia of Johnston, Ryan Curtis of Coventry, Victoria Dorgan of Cranston, Megan Elwell of Little Compton, Jocelyn Foraker of Hope Valley, Kelvis Hernandez of Providence, Bryeshia Jennings of Cranston and Hector Perea of Providence.
The students eligible for scholarships must have volunteered significant time and effort to community service to civic, religious, nonprofit or other organizations.
Since 1996, the fund has provided 93 scholarships totaling $122,000.
