PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Marine Trades Association will honor Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and Hunt Yachts President Peter Van Lancker at its fourth annual Industry Partnership Breakfast on Sept. 14.

Whitehouse and Van Lancker will receive the organization’s Anchor Award, presented annually to individuals who have had a significant impact on the Rhode Island marine trades.

Speakers at the event will include Evan Smith, president and CEO of Discover Newport; Wendy Mackie, CEO of the Marine Trades Association; and Andy Tyska, president of the Marine Trades Association.

Smith’s presentation will highlight the critical link between tourism and boating, evidenced by large turnouts for events such as the 2012 America’s Cup World Series in Newport, which drew 65,000 spectators and generated $38.2 million for state businesses, according to the association.
