THE R.I. TURNPIKE and Bridge Authority has created real-time traffic updates online for its bridges and the Route 138 connector so that the driving public will be better informed about traffic delays that may result from its recently announced Ten-Year Capital Plan.

JAMESTOWN – A new real-time traffic report is now available on the R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority’s website, RITBA.org.
RITBA is working with Waze, the free navigation app, to deliver up-to-date information regarding lane closures, construction activity and traffic conditions for motorists using its bridges and roadways.

Traffic updates will continue to be posted on RITBA’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

According to a news release from RITBA, this initiative is being unveiled in conjunction with its $223 million Ten-Year Capital Plan. The plan, with an average annual cost of $22 million, includes major repairs and maintenance improvements to RITBA’s roadways and bridges.
RITBA said it wants to keep the public as informed as possible, noting Mount Hope bridge work will begin later this month, and the Newport bridge work will continue through November.
“RITBA is working hard to maintain and extend the life of these major bridges. The construction maintenance projects bring with them traffic issues. We are doing everything possible to minimize traffic delays. This new [initiative] allows the motoring public to get real-time traffic information and construction updates on our website,” Buddy Croft, executive director of RITBA, said in a statement.

To view the real-time roadway maps and get the latest traffic alerts for the Newport Pell, Jamestown Verrazzano, Mount Hope and Sakonnnet River bridges, in addition to the Route 138 connector, visit RITBA.org.
