PROVIDENCE – The Roger Williams University School of Continuing Studies announced Monday that it has come together with Unified Solutions to house a partnership incubator in its new Providence campus at One Empire Plaza.

RWU President Donald Farish said the partnership is another example of the university’s “immersion into the urban community.”

He added: “Partnering with Unified Solutions will further connect us to the community by expanding our reach and engagement with a growing population of people.”

On Monday, RWU and Unified Solutions signed a memorandum of understanding.

Mayor Jorge O. Elorza, who witnessed the signing, said: “This new partnership incubator will expand the reach of [RWU’s] School of Continuing Studies and enable them to further engage community partners like Unified Solutions.”

Unified Solutions, which offers training, athletics, art and media programs to hundreds of urban teens, hopes to create a direct pipeline for youth they mentor to access educational opportunities offered at RWU. US is based in Providence, out of the RWU satellite campus, at One Empire Plaza.

Kobi Dennis, co-founder of Unified Solutions, said this partnership incubator represents the value in cross-community relationships.

“We are both about changing lives one student at a time and in many ways we are pioneers and revolutionaries that are organically infusing ‘hope’ into the minds of scholars both young and old,” he said.

Dean of the School of Continuing Studies, Jamie Scurry, is equally as excited about the potential connections to be made between the university and the community.

“This partnership means we will now join forces to literally and figuratively meet people where they are. For example, when a participant, family member or friend … is interested in exploring a career path but doesn’t know where to begin, we will be there to help them identify a path that aligns with their career goals, is affordable, and is meaningful in the marketplace,” she said.
