RWU names McTiernan new business school dean

BRISTOL – Susan McTiernan, a scholar, educator and administrator, will become dean of Roger Williams University’s business school, effective July 31.
McTiernan, who will lead the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business academically and administratively, most recently served as associate dean and associate professor of management of Quinnipiac University’s School of Business in Hamden, Conn. She had held that post since 2010.
Andrew Workman, RWU’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, said McTiernan is an ideal fit for the deanship.
“Dr. McTiernan comes to Roger Williams with a national reputation in business education, an outstanding record of new program development and a wide reputation for professionalism and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty,” he said in a statement.
McTiernan’s research focuses on leadership, organizational behavior and women in organizations, and she has published in scholarly academic journals and is a sought-after presenter at academic conferences.
She holds a doctorate in management from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, where she was a Packard Foundation scholar and a Mandel Center fellow. She earned her master’s degree from Hofstra and a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University, and she is a Fulbright scholar.
Feinstein College of Arts and Sciences Dean Robert Eisinger, a member of the search committee, said McTiernan’s experience and attitude will play key roles in making her a leader at RWU. She also is an elected member of the Graduate Management Admission Council’s board of directors.
“Dr. McTiernan is a keen listener,” Eisinger said. “Her intelligence, energy and sense of humor will serve Roger Williams University with distinction as the Gabelli School continues to build and enhance its reputation.”
McTeirnan says she is eager to work at RWU.
“I am especially looking forward to partnering with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, university leadership and other stakeholders of the Gabelli School in moving it to the next level of accomplishment and prominence among business schools nationally and globally,” she said.
