PROVIDENCE – Nine individuals have been nominated to serve on the new R.I. Executive Climate Change Science and Technical Advisory Board.
Gov. Gina M. Raimondo said she will nominate Peter August, Todd Bianco, James Boyd, Kelly Knee, Jason Osenkowski, Ronald Pitt, J. Timmons Roberts, Carol Thornber and Henry Walker.

“This advisory board will help Rhode Island develop practical solutions to addressing the impacts climate change will have across our state – from our coast to our urban and rural neighborhoods,” Raimondo said in a statement. “I want to thank these new members for their pledge to dedicate their time and knowledge to help protect our most important resources for generations to come.”

The advisory board was created as part of the “Resilient Rhode Island Act” to provide guidance to the Executive Climate Change Coordinating Council regarding issues such as aligning academic research around issues of climate resiliency, communicating scientific and technical information to the public, and taking inventory on public- and private-sector work to achieve greater coordination and efficiency.

In addition, Raimondo said she also plans to nominate John Bucci, Melody Drnach, Annette Feldman, Sister Joyce Flowers, Mary Moen and Doug Norris to the Library Board of Rhode Island.

“Libraries have played a pivotal role in my life, from helping my grandfather learn English, to helping me be a better student,” Raimondo said. “This diverse group of individuals represents our libraries’ various stakeholders and will work to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard. I am grateful for their service.”

These nominations will replace Kristen Chin, Edward Garcia Jr., Phyllis Humphrey, Shirley Long, Joan Ress Reeves and Joan Retsinas, whose board terms have expired.
The Library Board of Rhode Island is composed of citizens appointed by the governor from libraries of all types. This board advises the Office of Library and Information Services on policy issues, supports legislative initiatives and acts as an advocacy group on behalf of libraries.

Names of all the nominees will be submitted to the state Senate for confirmation.
