Raimondo, officials highlighting new health care initiative in South County

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo will join community partners Friday to highlight a new initiative made possible through the state’s Health Equity Zone grants.
According to information from the governor’s office, Friday’s event, which will be held at South County Hospital, will outline an initiative focused on childhood obesity and children’s mental health that supports statewide efforts to improve health outcomes and reduce the impact of health care costs on the state’s economy.
The state Department of Health is collaborating with 11 organizations across the state through the grants to support approaches to prevent chronic diseases, improve birth outcomes and improve social and environmental conditions of Rhode Island neighborhoods.
In addition to Raimondo, R.I. Department of Health Director Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott; Thundermist Health Center CEO Chuck Jones; Wood River Health Services CEO Michael Lichtenstein; South County Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Director Susan Orban; and South County Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Chairman and YMCA of Greater Providence CEO Jim Berson are expected to attend the event.
