PROVIDENCE – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo has called a noon news conference for Thursday at the Statehouse to make “a major jobs announcement” concerning Virgin Pulse.
Raimondo is expected to be joined by Virgin Pulse President and COO David Osborne, as well as Dr. Rajiv Kumar. Kumar was the founder of ShapeUp Inc., which was acquired by Virgin Pulse in February of this year for an undisclosed amount. Kumar has remained with the company as the president and chief medical office of the Virgin Pulse Institute, which contains the organization’s analytics team.
At the time of the acquisition by Framingham, Mass.-based Virgin Pulse, ShapeUp had offices in Providence and Boston, with 92 and nine employees, respectively, as well as 33 remote employees throughout the country.
A press release from the governor’s office said that the employee engagement and wellbeing technology solution providers will be adding “hundreds of new jobs to the Ocean State.” The release also says that Raimondo and Osborne will be announcing additional details about the company’s future in Rhode Island.
