PROVIDENCE – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo will be honored with a New Englander of the Year Award, as will former U.S. Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns and General Electric Chairman and CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt, according to the New England Council.

Hosted by the regional business organization, the New Englander of the Year Awards will be presented Nov. 1 at the Seaport Hotel/World Trade Center in Boston. More than 1,700 council members — representing businesses in various industries and companies of various sizes — are expected to attend.

“Each of our 2016 honorees has made impressive and inspiring contributions to our economy and our communities … Through thoughtful leadership, innovative thinking and dedication to their community and their nation, these individuals truly embody all that is great about New England,” said James T. Brett, president and CEO of the New England Council, in a press release.

Dinner co-chairs are Joseph L. Hooley, chairman and CEO, State Street Corp.; and Michael F. Mahoney, chairman and CEO of Boston Scientific.

Raimondo, a Rhode Island native, is the state’s first female governor. She is credited with economic efforts such as negotiating for a GE Digital information technology center to come to Providence — bringing with it 100 jobs — following GE headquarters’ move from Connecticut to Boston.
