PROVIDENCE – Earlier this month, Gov. Gina M. Raimondo visited Tyco Fire Protection Products in Cranston, where she visited its Women in Technology program to speak with high school students interested in science, technology, engineering and math careers.
Through the program, students from participating high schools work on engineering projects with the company’s staff.
This is the first year Tyco has offered the program in Rhode Island.
Pilgrim High School in Warwick, St. Mary Academy-Bay View in East Providence and LaSalle Academy in Providence participated.
“The WIT program at Tyco harnesses the raw talent of Rhode Island students and helps them build the skills that matter so they can compete for jobs that pay,” Raimondo said in a statement. “The projects these young women are working on give them real hands-on experience where they gain leadership skills and support from mentors in STEM fields.”
