Raimondo visits school, celebrates EverFi

Posted 5/8/12

PROVIDENCE – The fact that April was financial literacy month has not been lost on R.I. General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo. The treasurer visits to North Providence High School last week and also celebrated the statewide expansion of EverFi, the state’s first Web-based financial literacy program.

Sponsored by many local financial institutions including Navigant, Westerly Community, Pawtucket, and People’s credit unions, EverFi uses new media technologies, 3-D gaming and social networking to bring complex financial concepts to life. The platform certifies students in more than 600 financial topics, including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, taxes, stocks, savings, 401(k)s and other concepts. EverFi is in 19 Rhode Island high schools, with 25 additional schools ready to start over the next year.

“Financial empowerment remains one of my top priorities and is critical to the preparedness and success of Rhode Island's high school students,” Raimondo said. “It was interesting to hear from students about their experience with the EverFi program. I am encouraged that EverFi continues to work with Rhode Island's credit unions to expand this program here.”

“Navigant Credit Union is proud to sponsor EverFi in 14 high schools across northern Rhode Island, as we remain committed to the community and increased financial literacy,” said Gary Furtado, president and CEO of Navigant Credit Union.
