Raytheon lands $106M contract increase

Posted 4/17/12

PORTSMOUTH – The U.S. Navy awarded Raytheon Co. a $106.4 million increase to a previously awarded production contract for Aegis Combat System-related equipment, the Waltham, Mass.-based technological defense company announced Tuesday.

Raytheon will continue to produce the AN/SPY-1(D)V radar transmitter and MK99 Mod 14 fire-control system for the Aegis systems.

The work will take place at Raytheon’s Seapower Capability Center in Portsmouth, IDS’ Surveillance and Sensors Center in Sudbury, Mass. and the Integrated Defense Center in Andover, Mass.

"Raytheon has partnered with the Navy for more than three decades on Aegis, and we look forward to supporting the next stage of the program," Denis Donohue, director of Above Water Sensors for Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business said in prepared remarks.

"As the world's pre-eminent leader in naval radar technology, we are uniquely positioned to advance the legacy of Aegis and build upon its proven capabilities," he added.

The new contract will support the next planned ship of the Arleigh Burke-class of destroyers as well as the Aegis Ashore missile-defense system.
