Reed, Fung to announce $150K in funds for Cranston senior program

CRANSTON – U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and Mayor Allan Fung will visit members of the Cranston Senior Services’ Retired Senior Volunteer Program on Monday morning to thank them for their volunteerism and announce more than $150,000 in federal funding to boost their efforts.
Cranston RSVP will receive $50,000 annually over three years – for a total of $150,000 – in federal funds to support the Cranston Senior Enrichment Center’s volunteer programs for local seniors.
Cranston RSVP plans to use the funding for additional volunteer opportunities focused on healthy aging, the environment, and veterans and military families, according to a news release.
The competitive federal grant funds are made available through the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.
The Serve America Act grant funds are being awarded through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, one of three Senior Corps programs administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
