BOSTON – The Consumer Price Index in the Northeast rose 0.7 percent over the last 12 months to a non-seasonally adjusted 249.3 in October, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Northeast region includes the six New England states as well as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Nationally, the index for all items – including housing, transportation and medical care costs as well as volatile food and energy prices and other goods – increased 1 percent year over year to 233.5, not seasonally adjusted.
Regionally, the energy index dropped 5.3 percent to 234.8 in October, while the national energy index fell 4.8 percent to 238.5.
The housing index in the Northeast – which includes rent or the homeowner equivalent, fuels and utilities, and household furnishings and operations – posted a 1.7 percent year-over-year increase in October to 256.9, compared with a national increase of 2.1 percent to 228.4.
Regionally, the index for transportation fell 2.2 percent to 214.7, as the national transportation index fell 2.4 percent to 214.9. The transportation index includes private transportation costs, motor fuel and gasoline.
