Regional consumer prices rise 2% in February

BOSTON - The Consumer Price Index in the Northeast rose 2 percent over the last 12 months in February, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Northeast region includes the six New England states as well as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

Nationally, the index for all items, including the volatile food and energy prices, also increased 2 percent year over year before seasonal adjustment in February.

Regionally, the energy index rose 2.8 percent in February, after rising 1.7 percent in January. Comparatively, the national energy rose 2.3 percent after falling 1 percent in January.

The housing index in the Northeast posted a 1.9 percent increase in February (matching the national increase average) and the index for transportation rose 2.7 percent.
