STATE REGULATORS are seeking more information from Care New England and Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island regarding the application for Memorial to join the hospital network.
Posted 3/6/13

PROVIDENCE – State regulators reviewing the expedited application by Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island to join the Care New England hospital network have requested additional information, according to Amy Kempe, a spokeswoman with the R.I. Attorney General’s office.

In a letter sent to lawyers representing the two hospital entities, R.I. Deputy Attorney General Gerald J. Coyne said the pending application under the Hospital Conversions Act expedited review process was deemed incomplete, until the requested information can be provided.

Coyne said while there was no time frame for when the parties had to submit the new documentation, he said that a formal review of the planned merger could not begin until the application was deemed complete.

The new Care New England partnership with Memorial Hospital is one of three pending transactions with state regulators. The others are the proposed sale of Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket to Prime Healthcare in Ontario, Calif., and the pending sale of Westerly Hospital to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn.
