Report: Boston one of top cities for high-paying tech jobs

Looking for a high-paying job in tech? For something close to home, Boston is the place to be.
Indeed.com recently released its Tech Salary Report, and while Providence is not listed among the top 15 cities for high-paying tech jobs, Boston figures prominently, ranking sixth highest in the U.S. for average salary at $97,266. When adjusted for cost of living, Boston’s rank slips to seventh for an average salary of $86,664
San Francisco tops the list with an average unadjusted salary of $113,497, followed by San Jose, Calif., $111,925; New York City, $109,765; Los Angeles, $98,346; and Seattle, $98,215.
When it comes to cities where labor costs are lowest to the business, Austin, Texas, leads the list, and Boston falls to eighth.
The report breaks down 15 tech jobs, ranging from IT security specialist and database administrator to software developer and data analyst, listing the average salary for each in each city.
For IT security specialist, Minneapolis tops the list with an average salary at $131,302, while Boston comes in 13th at $99,274.
Austin led the pay for database administrator with $109,939, while Boston was fourth at $105,812.
Boston led the software developer category at $106,675; adjusted for cost of living, the pay drops to $95,047, but still is highest on the list.
Boston was second for data analyst with an adjusted annual salary of $72,420, behind Seattle’s adjusted annual salary of $73,465. Unadjusted, Boston’s average salary for this job climbs to $81,280.
Indeed said it included the top 15 cities from the tech hub ranking included in previous Indeed Hiring Lab research, “Beyond the Talent Shortage: How Tech Candidates Search for Jobs.”
