CENTRAL FALLS – The Central Falls School District has made progress in improving its graduation rates, math proficiency and culture at its high school, according to a newly released report.
The analysis of those accomplishments is part of “The Central Falls High School Third Year Transformation Report,” conducted by the Education Alliance and the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, both at Brown University. The report was released in October.
The report details results of Central Falls High School’s implementation of a comprehensive transformation plan adopted in 2010 after the school was deemed “persistently low achieving” and in need of intervention by the Rhode Island Department of Education.
The four-year graduation rate has improved from 48 percent for the class of 2009 to 70 percent for the class of 2012. The NECAP mathematics proficiency rate has nearly doubled from 7 percent in October of 2011 to 13 percent in October of 2012. In addition, teachers, students, parents, staff, and community partners all report an improved school culture and climate, the report states.
“This report shows that transformation is truly happening at Central Falls High School,” said Dr. Frances Gallo, district superintendent. •
