Report: Providence receives D grade on best cities for young families list, Warwick earns a B

PROVIDENCE – Another list, another poor showing for Providence. Apartment List, an online rental marketplace, gave Providence a grade of D on its list of the “Best Cities for Young Families.”
Apartment List came up with its findings after looking at such things as safety based on FBI data, the percentage of the median renter income required to rent a two-bedroom apartment, high school graduation rates and the percentage of the population under 18.
Providence ranked 434th on the list of 474 cities nationwide. Among Rhode Island cities, Warwick ranked the highest at No. 190 with a grade of B, followed by Cranston at 255, receiving a grade of B-, and Pawtucket at 357 with a C grade.
In Southeastern Massachusetts, Fall River ranked No. 308, receiving a B-.
Allen, Texas, topped the list with an A+. In fact, Texas cities took five of the top 10 spots. St. Louis ranked last on the list, with an F grade.
“Overall, large cities tended not to do very well – they are relatively expensive, and have higher crime rates and lower education scores than their surrounding suburbs. New York, L.A., Chicago, Houston and San Francisco all received a B- or worse,” Apartment List wrote.
