PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island is among the top 20 states to live in, according to 24/7 Wall St., a financial news and opinion company.
Released this week, the Ocean State ranked 16th on the list, and was noted for its 5.7 percent uninsured rate, which is one of the lowest in the country.
The website also said that based on median household income and life expectancy, Rhode Island is among the better states to live in. But it noted that the state’s population growth of just 2.3 percent over the past decade is the second lowest of all states after Michigan. Its jobless rate also was ninth highest in October at 5.5 percent.
24/7 Wall St. said Massachusetts is the best state to live in, followed by Connecticut and New Hampshire.
Massachusetts, home to one of the nation’s wealthiest and most highly educated populations, leads the nation in quality of life, the website said.
It noted that more than two out of every five adults in the Bay State have at least a bachelor’s degree, “by far the highest proportion of any state.”
Vermont was seventh best on the list, and Maine was 23rd. Mississippi, the poorest state in the country, ranks last.
24/7 Wall St. said it evaluated poverty rate, the percentage of adults who have at least a bachelor’s degree and life expectancy at birth to come up with the list.
