PROVIDENCE – When it comes to car repairs, Rhode Island is on the more affordable end, according to the RepairPal Institute, the research and data science division of RepairPal, an auto repair website.
The Ocean State ranked 17th among the top 25 states in the country for having the “most affordable” auto repairs at an average cost of $1,155, below the national average of $1,176.
In comparison, Alaska is the most expensive state at $1,374, followed by Michigan at $1,289; Connecticut, $1,271; and Massachusetts, $1,246. The most inexpensive state is West Virginia at $1,033, 12 percent below the national average.
RepairPal said the South in general is the most affordable region in the country for auto repairs.
RepairPal said it used its auto repair database to measure the average cost of three common repairs – water pump, alternator and brake pad replacements – on three popular car models – a 2010 Ford F-150, 2010 Honda Accord and 2010 BMW 328i – in a range of zip codes across each U.S. state to come up with its findings.
