PROVIDENCE – Among Rhode Island cities, Warwick is the most recovered from the Great Recession, while Pawtucket is the least.

WalletHub, a financial services website, said it compared 505 U.S. cities of varying sizes to come up with its list of “2017’s Most and Least Recession-Recovered Cities.” It looked at factors such as inflow of college-educated workers, ratio of part-time to full-time jobs; median household income; median home price; rates for unemployment, poverty, foreclosures and homeownership; and number of businesses.

WalletHub said for some Americans, the Great Recession is “nothing more than the distant shadow of a troubled economic past,” but said some areas in the country are still feeling its effects, even though the recession officially ended in June 2009.

According to its list, Texas cities dominate the top 10 most-recovered cities, with Midland ranking No. 1, followed by Odessa, The Woodlands, College Station and Edinburg. Two California cities take the next spots – Santa Clara and Mountain View – before Austin, Texas makes an appearance at No. 8. Provo, Utah, and Denver round out the top 10.
Warwick was No. 160 on the list. Providence was No. 170, while Cranston was No. 191 and Pawtucket, No. 231.
