PROVIDENCE – For the second week in a row, the price of gasoline fell in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to AAA Southern New England. In its weekly gas price roundup, released Monday, the automobile owner advocacy group recorded an average price of self-serve, unleaded regular gasoline of $3.51 per gallon in the Ocean State, a fall of 2 cents from the previous week’s average. At the same time, the average price of gas in the Bay State fell 4 cents to $3.41 per gallon.
The current price for gas in Rhode Island stands 2 cents per gallon less than its level a month ago and is 22 centers greater than the national average for unleaded regular. A year ago, the price for the same gas was 1 cent greater than its current average. The range for the price of gas in the state went from $3.42 to $3.63 per gallon, according to the survey. At the same time, midgrade unleaded averaged $3.75 per gallon, while premium unleaded averaged $3.86 and diesel $4.01.
The Massachusetts’ price represented a decline of 4 cents per gallon from the price on Jan. 13, as well as the price a month ago, while it stood at 1 cent greater than the price a year ago. The Bay State price was also 12 cents per gallon greater than national average of $3.29. The average prices per gallon for various grades of gasoline in Massachusetts ranged from $3.60 for midgrade unleaded to $3.72 for premium unleaded to $4.00 for diesel.
