While studying at Brown University, Sol Chen noticed the many fliers around campus calling on students to participate in research.

The recruitment method, in a digital age, seemed antiquated to Chen, so she connected with Even Ehrenberg, a student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the duo quickly formed Xperii Corp., a web- and app-based platform that connects researchers with research-participants.

“She asked me if what she was seeing at Brown was also happening at MIT, and it was,” Ehrenberg said. “We were surprised that fliers were the norm.”

The platform, introduced last October, now also has communication capabilities, data-collection tools and other odds and ends related to research projects. The augmented capacity is resonating well with researchers, Ehrenberg said.

“It’ll have everything from agreements with participants to having schedules all in one area,” he added.

The product is being tested in beta, and the duo expects to launch it this fall. •
