JOHNSTON – Entergy Corp.’s wholesale generation division, Entergy Wholesale Commodities, has closed on the $490 million sale of its 583-megawatt Rhode Island State Energy Center to Carlyle Power Partners, the company announced Thursday.

In October, Entergy announced the agreement to sell the natural gas-fired plant to Carlyle, based in Washington, D.C..

“RISEC has been a good investment for us, and its sale is consistent with our strategy for Entergy Wholesale Commodities – to be disciplined about reducing risk and freeing up financial resources for other opportunities,” Entergy Chairman and CEO Leo Denault said in a statement.

Entergy Wholesale Commodities purchased the Johnston facility for $346 million in December 2011. RISEC began commercial operations in 2002.
