Ride 2 Recovery benefits injured veterans’ health

PROVIDENCE – The Ride 2 Recovery Minuteman Challenge, a national bike ride that supports the health and wellness of injured veterans, was hosted at the Statehouse last week.
The annual ride includes more than 150 bicyclists and runs from Waltham, Mass., to New York City, a distance of 355 miles, and is presented by UnitedHealthcare.
A Sept. 8 ceremony at the Rhode Island Statehouse marked the beginning of the ride’s second day. Scheduled to be present at the ceremony, along with veteran riders and their supporters, were Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, former professional cyclist and Ride 2 Recovery founder John Wordin and UnitedHealthcare of New England CEO Stephen Farrell.
The ride helps injured veterans improve their health and wellness through individual and group cycling. Cycling has proven to be a catalyst in the recovery process by providing a physical challenge as well as a variety of mental challenges. Bikes are often custom-fitted to the physical needs of each individual rider. •
