Robert A. DiMuccio

Amica Mutual Insurance Co.’s Robert A. DiMuccio is a native Rhode Islander who helped grow the small Lincoln-based mutual insurance company into a national name. Its reputation for customer service well-established, Amica goes into the next century as a company that sets itself apart with its personal touch. Guided by DiMuccio, Amica has kept pace with what customers want.

A Providence College graduate, DiMuccio worked as an accountant for 12 years before joining Amica in 1991. By 2003, he was executive vice president, stepping up to president and CEO in 2005. Three years later, he was named chairman.

People make the difference for DiMuccio. In 2014, he told PBN that because Amica sells an intangible product, customer service must be exemplary.

“Our business is based on our customers’ interactions with our employees,” he said. “I don’t think you can fake empathy. People will figure it out very quickly.”

This commitment has earned Amica J.D. Power Awards for Highest Customer Satisfaction for Auto Insurers for 16 years in a row, and for home insurers for 14 consecutive years.

DiMuccio is a champion of Rhode Island itself. He has been outspoken on the need for tax reform to keep the state competitive. He has pushed for more regulatory transparency.

He has also personally invested, winning community-service awards from Rotary, the NAACP and LaSalle Academy. The Association of Fundraising Professionals named him a Partner in Philanthropy. DiMuccio serves on boards that include Crossroads Rhode Island, The Washington Trust Co. and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.

“I’m an optimist by nature … we should roll up our sleeves” to solve problems he said. •
