Roberti renamed to DOE committee

WARWICK – Paul Roberti of the R.I. Public Utilities Commission has been reappointed as a member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Electricity Advisory Committee.
First named to the advisory committee in 2013, Roberti will serve a second two-year term, ending July 1, 2017.
A North Kingstown-resident, Roberti was appointed to the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission in 2009. Prior to his appointment, Commissioner Roberti served for 17 years in the R.I. Attorney General’s Office. In that capacity, he was involved in hundreds of proceedings involving public utility, environmental and energy matters before federal and state agencies, including appellate proceedings before the R.I. Supreme Court, the federal district courts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals.
Roberti also currently serves in various capacities within the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, including his current role as chairman of the Subcommittee on Pipeline Safety. He also serves as chairman of the advisory council for the New Mexico State University Center for Public Utilities.
The DOE’s Electricity Advisory Committee develops strategies for long-term planning and priorities for the modernization of electricity-delivery infrastructure in the U.S. As a member of the EAC, Roberti will continue to provide advice on these issues, presenting counseling the DOE on aspects of electricity including the deployment of smart-grid technologies, research and development of energy storage technologies, renewable energy resource system integration, Gas-Electric Integration, and new transmission infrastructure.
The EAC is required to meet once annually. However, the committee may hold additional meetings and hire subcommittees with DOE approval to undertake certain projects. Three subcommittees have been established: the Energy Storage Technologies Subcommittee, the Smart Grid Subcommittee, and the Power Delivery Subcommittee, as well as working groups on the Workforce and Cyber Security.
