Ronald McDonald House breaks ground on expansion

PROVIDENCE – The 18-bedroom Ronald McDonald House broke ground Wednesday on a 10-bedroom expansion.
Gov. Gina M. Raimondo and Mayor Jorge O. Elorza joined Ronald McDonald House staff, volunteers and supporters to celebrate the nonprofit’s first major expansion at 45 Gay St. since 1989.
The nonprofit’s programs allow families to spend extra time with a sick child, particularly newborns, help ease financial burdens, and keep families together during times of medical crisis, its website notes.
“The Ronald McDonald House of Providence provides families with care and compassion during unbelievably trying times,” Raimondo said. “Their hardworking staff and volunteers play an integral role in our community.”
The “Always Room at the House” expansion campaign has a goal of raising $5 million for the project, which will allow the house to serve about 130 additional families a year. So far, $3 million has been raised.
Michael Fantom, CEO, Ronald McDonald House of Providence, thanked supporters and donors for making the project possible.
“Adding these rooms and program space to our Providence location will allow our amazing employees and volunteers to serve more than 100 more families from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, across the country and around the world,” Fantom said.
The nonprofit is still accepting donations to support the “Always Room at the House” expansion project. For information, visit www.rmhprovidence.org.
