PROVIDENCE – An organization for international high school students has purchased the former Tockwotton Home building in the city’s Fox Point neighborhood for $2 million, Tockwotton announced Friday.
Roosevelt International Academy will make the 48,500-square-foot brick building its new headquarters and student dormitory starting in August, according to a news release.
The building has been vacant since Tockwotton moved to a new building across the Seekonk River on the Easy Providence waterfront.
“We feel very lucky to have Tockwotton as our new flagship headquarters and are pleased to carry on its tradition of serving the Rhode Island community,” said Roosevelt International Acedemy Founder and Managing Partner Benjamin Tre in a news rlelease.
“Although the residents of Tockwotton will now be children rather than the elderly, we feel that its new use as an international education facility is consistent with the historical ethos of the Tockwotton organization, and we look forward to becoming an active member of the Fox Point neighborhood,” he added.
Founded in 2010, Roosevelt helps students from Asia, Latin America and other regions pursue high school degrees at American private day schools while promoting “understanding and cooperation between the U.S. and its global counterparts.”
Built in 1964, the Tockwotton home at 75 East St. was last renovated in 1993.
The sale was brokered by Karl Sherry, partner at Hayes & Sherry, a Cushman & Wakefield affiliate in Providence.
