EAST PROVIDENCE – Motorists traversing north on Route 114 at Mink Street can glimpse estimated travel times to Interstate 95 and T.F. Green airport on pre-existing electronic message boards, the R.I. Department of Transportation announced.

The travel times are calculated using GPS data sourced from “cellphones, GPS units and transponders,” the DOT said. DOT also runs travel-time bulletins on I-95, I-195, and Route 146, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, in addition to other planning services such as 511, Highway Advisory Radio (1630 AM) and live traffic cameras, as well as real-time travel estimates at www.tmc.dot.ri.gov/traveltimes.

“We’re pleased to expand our toolbox of travel-planning services by expanding the real-time travel information for East Bay commuters heading into the city of Providence and beyond,” said DOT Director Michael P. Lewis in a statement. •
