Roye named Miriam’s head of general surgery

PROVIDENCE – Dr. G. Dean Roye has been appointed the new director of general surgery at The Miriam Hospital, effective Jan. 1, hospital officials announced.
Roye, an expert in bariatric, general and minimally invasive surgery, succeeds Dr. David Cloutier, who served as interim director for several years and was recently named the hospital’s chief of surgical quality care.
Roye came to The Miriam Hospital from Rhode Island Hospital in 2012 with the launch of the Center for Bariatric Surgery, a combined program uniting surgeons and staff from both hospitals into a single program based at Miriam. He previously served as director of Rhode Island Hospital’s bariatric-surgery program for 10 years.
“Dean Roye is a wonderfully skilled surgeon and compassionate caregiver whose exceptional talent and leadership will enhance The Miriam Hospital’s tradition of providing comprehensive, advanced and patient-centered surgical care,” said Dr. R. William Corwin, senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at Miriam. •
