Ruane Center gets award

PROVIDENCE – The Providence College Ruane Center of Humanities, designed by the S/L/A/M Collaborative, has received the Palladio Award at a national conference in Princeton, N.J.
The building, constructed in a Collegiate Gothic style of architecture, was constructed with materials and details to complement the existing campus buildings. The interior design focuses on use of natural light.
“The design intent was to create a symphony of spaces that connects students, professors and the humanities curriculum,” said Neil H. Martin, project design and principal of SLAM, which is headquartered in Glastonbury, Conn.
The three-story, 63,000-square-foot building opened in August 2013, and is composed of three areas, including an illuminated tower entrance, which opens into a Great Room. The building houses lecture halls, classrooms, seminar rooms, faculty offices and work rooms.
The Palladio Awards are a national awards program that honor traditional design, and are produced by Traditional Building magazine.
