Rugby nonprofit gets CITGO recognition

PROVIDENCE – The American Youth Rugby League Association, a Rhode Island nonprofit that works to teach middle school and high school students positive values through sports, has been recognized as one of CITGO Petroleum Corp.’s Fueling Good Winners.

The association received $5,000 in CITGO gift cards that will be used to transport members to after-school rugby programs.

“I can’t thank the folks at CITGO enough for believing in the work we are doing,” said Michael Kelly, CFO of the association, in a statement. “Transportation expenses become a larger part of our budget every year. The Fueling Good award will allow us and our incredible volunteers to continue to focus our resources on helping children.”

The association works with students in underprivileged areas on developing hope, strength, confidence, honor, and respect. It also, in partnership with the USA Rugby League, works to guard young men against at-risk behavior.

CITGO has in the last four years donated more than a million miles of good to more than 200 individuals and nonprofits through the Fueling Good program. In this campaign, more than 300,000 votes were cast to determine 12 winning organizations.
