SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The Los Angeles-based 2014 Craft Spirits Awards International Competition has awarded gold medals to the Sons of Liberty Spirits Co. for two of its whiskeys.
The Battle Cry American Single Malt Whiskey and the Summer Release Hop Flavored Whiskey each won awards.
The blind tasting was conducted on May 6-8, and judges based their assessments on appearance, aroma, flavor, finish and overall appeal.
Battle Cry originates from a Belgian style beer and is brewed to feature a distinct spice and dark fruit profile. The hop-flavored whiskey starts with a traditional IPA, but is designed to exude light, thirst-quenching citrusy notes.
“We started Sons of Liberty to redefine American Whiskey, and it’s a great honor to have our efforts recognized by this year’s Craft Spirits Awards International Competition,” said Sons of Liberty owner Mike Reppucci.
Other awards the distillery has won in 2014 include a “World’s Best” award for its Pumpkin Spice Flavored Whiskey at Whisky Magazine’s World Whiskies Awards in London; a gold medal at the 14th annual San Francisco World Spirits competition for its hop-flavored whiskey; and a gold and best of category at the American Distilling Institute’s 8th annual Judging of Craft American Spirits for Battle Cry.
