THE U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, AARP and the Center for Women & Enterprise will host a mentoring day for "encore entrepreneurs" in the Ocean State on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Small Business Administration is teaming up with AARP and the Center for Women & Enterprise to host the Rhode Island Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Day on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
The event, announced Tuesday by the Small Business Administration, is targeted at “encore entrepreneurs” over the age of 50 seeking advice and assistance from successful business owners and community leaders.
Rhode Island’s event will include speed mentoring, which will allow mentors and entrepreneurs to share information, and learn from successful business owners.
The event is part of a larger effort by the SBA and the AARP to promote entrepreneurship among individuals 50 and older. The overall effort will consist of events across the country that will match encore entrepreneurs with mentors with small business experience.
According to the SBA, small business ownership is a good option for the one in four individuals between 44 and 70 who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs and the 63 percent of Americans who plan to work during retirement.
The event will also help connect encore entrepreneurs with mentors from SBA’s network of Small Business Development Centers and Women’s Business Centers, among others.
The Rhode Island Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Day will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Center for Women & Enterprise at 132 George M. Cohan Blvd. in Providence. Registration is required.
To register for this event, contact Matthew Spoehr in SBA Rhode Island District Office at (401) 528-4561 or email matthew.spoehr@sba.gov.
