SBANE meeting features SouthCoast tech park


WARWICK – The Small Business Association of New England continues its Rhode Island Breakfast Series on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Crown Plaza Hotel Providence-Warwick. The featured speaker will be Mike DiGiano, executive vice president and chief operating officer of NAI Hunneman, who will discuss the SouthCoast Life Science and Technology Park at Fall River.

The technology park is a new 300-acre, shovel-ready development which will also serve as home to UMass Dartmouth’s new biomanufacturing facility, opening in the spring 2013.

Encompassing more than 300 acres and serviced by a new highway interchange with direct visibility on Route 24, the SouthCoast Life Science & Technology Park has ready sites with permits that can be delivered in 30 days. In addition to biotech, research and development and manufacturing, the park can also support general technology as well more traditional industrial and office uses.

The first new construction in the park, the Massachusetts Accelerator for Biomanufacturing at UMass Dartmouth, will give companies capability for testing biomanufacturing processes, training their workforce and provide a “production scale” research facility. The facility can provide traditional biologic therapeutic products, new types of products using stem cells and tissue engineering, biomaterials, biofuels and green chemistry products.
