SEED Corp. elects Richard Shafer new board chair

TAUNTON – The South Eastern Economic Development Corp. has elected Richard Shafer its new board of directors chair for 2017.
Shafer is president of Shafer Development Services and project manager for the Taunton Development Corp., which oversees Taunton Myles Standish Industrial Park. He was named the new chair at the community development corporation’s 34th annual meeting.
“I am very proud to be elected as the new chair of SEED Corporation. This is a great organization, which meets the financing needs of many small businesses in the region,” said Shafer in prepared remarks.
Shafer had served on the board of directors since 1987, and as vice chair for the last six years, according to a press release. He received SEED’s Regional Business Advocate of the Year award in 2013.
SEED also elected other officers: Jennifer Menard, vice chair (dean of grant development, Bristol Community College); Charles Dwyer, vice chair (senior vice president, Middlesex Savings Bank); Lorraine Travers, treasurer (CPA, CFP); Robert Reisner, assistant treasurer (vice president, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank); William Lewis, clerk (vice president, Bristol County Savings Bank); Wayne Carvalho, assistant clerk (vice president, First Citizens Federal Credit Union); and Gerard Nadeau, past chair (executive vice president, Rockland Trust Co.).
