SEED names J.M. Pet Resort 2016 ‘small business of the year’

TAUNTON – The South Eastern Economic Development Corp. last month named a Brockton, Mass., pet care facility “small business of the year” for 2016.
The company, J.M. Pet Resort, started in 1998 and was selected from a pool of 300 candidates, according to a press release. The hotel-style pet care facility is a place where cats and dogs are boarded and groomed.
“We are very pleased to present our small business of the year award to J.M. Pet Resort, a women-owned small business, which has doubled sales since 2009 and grown to 49 employees,” said Maria Gooch-Smith, SEED’s executive director, in prepared remarks.
The nonprofit financing group provides financing from $1,000 to $5.5 million through the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 504 loan program. It operates in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
In 2016, the group made 68 small business loans totaling $16.9 million.
SBA Rhode Island district director Mark S. Hayward participated in the award ceremony.
