SEED to host business-ownership workshops in Providence

THE SOUTH EASTERN Economic Development Corp. will host a pair of entrepreneurial workshops on Feb. 6 at the Center for Women & Enterprise in Providence.

PROVIDENCE – The South Eastern Economic Development Corporation will host two workshops on Feb. 6 in Providence to guide beginning entrepreneurs through the basic steps of starting, owning and growing a business.

Both workshops will be held at the Center for Women & Enterprise at 132 George M. Cohan Blvd. in Providence. The first will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on the topic “Learn the Fundamentals in Planning, Preparing and Financing Your Business,” and will instruct entrepreneurs in how to get started, where and how to secure financing, and how to go through the loan application process. Attendees will receive a free guide to writing a business plan and complimentary breakfast and lunch.

The second workshop, titled “Understanding the Purpose of Financial Statements and How They Can Help Determine the Health of Your Business,” will focus on understanding balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements, as well as anticipating financial needs to operate a business efficiently. This session will begin at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

SEED Corp.’s free entrepreneurial workshops are held in cooperation with the U.S. Small Business Administration Rhode Island District Office, the R.I. Small Business Development Center, the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the R.I. Commerce Corporation, the Center for Women & Enterprise and the Rhode Island chapter of SCORE. The Rockland Trust Co. will sponsor the workshops.
