THE SOUTHEASTERN New England Defense Industry Alliance, with members in the defense industry from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, will host a regional gathering of industry leaders and government representatives in Newport this September.

MIDDLETOWN – This September, the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance will bring together officials and defense industry leaders for an event in Newport focusing on new trends within the defense industry and the future of innovation and technology in defense.
“This will be a rare opportunity for business leaders within the defense industry to learn from one another about emerging technologies and hear directly from our nation’s leaders that are helping to craft our defense priorities for years to come,” said Molly Donohue Magee, executive director of SENEDIA, in a release announcing the event.
The event will take place from Wednesday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept. 5, at the Marriott Newport. Current topics for discussion include: “Innovation from the Technology Perspective,” “State of Foreign Affairs and the Effect on the Defense Industry;” “Innovation from the Warfighter’s Perspective;” “The Maritime Cybersecurity Center;” and “Innovation from the Unmanned Vehicle Perspective.”
The forum for policymakers and industry representatives will be among the first of its kind in the region, SENEDIA said, and aims to give companies insight into future acquisition opportunities while also giving government officials a platform to speak to defense companies large and small.
Confirmed speakers for the event include U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Frank Kendall, the U.S. under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics. Dyke Weatherington, U.S. Department of Defense director of unmanned warfare & intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; Reps. James R. Langevin and David N. Cicilline; Bluefin Robotics CEO David Kelly; and Stefanie Tompkins, director of the defense sciences office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency are also scheduled to attend.
“I am proud to support SENEDIA’s effort to bring together policymakers and business leaders from across New England and the country to discuss some of the most important trends in the defense of our nation,” said Reed, who chairs the U.S. Senate’s armed services subcommittee on seapower. “Rhode Island and New England are home to some of the most important companies helping to develop the technologies needed to protect our nation, and Newport is the perfect place to host such an important event.”
Individuals or companies wishing to attend, exhibit at or become a sponsor for the event can find more information online at www.defenseinnovationdays.com.
