S.K.’s Embleton wins competition scholarship

MOBILE, Ala. – Dayle Embleton of South Kingstown has been named the Distinguished Young Woman of Rhode Island for 2014 and awarded $1,950 in cash scholarships.
The award was made during a statewide scholarship program for high school girls held at The Assembly Theatre in the Harrisville section of Burrillville. Formerly known as America’s Junior Miss, organizers renamed the program in 2010.
Embleton was one of six high school senior girls from Rhode Island who competed to represent the state. Jordan Campagnone of Johnston, Alexandra Dutremble of Woonsocket, Lauren Pothier of East Providence, Jailene Rodriguez of Providence and Delani Rosa of Providence also participated.
Areas of competition included scholastics, interview, fitness, self-expression and talent.
In the coming year, Embleton will represent the state at various public events and serve as a role model to young people by spreading the program’s national outreach message of “Be Your Best Self.” She is the daughter of Nancy Embleton and is a senior at South Kingstown High School. •
